Get the camping gear you need
Spring is here, which means summer is right around the corner. If you've never been camping, but find yourself thinking about getting into the great outdoors for the first time this summer, we're here to help. Sometimes finding the gear can seem a little daunting, but don't despair.
You simply need a few basic pieces of gear and then decide where you're going. When going car camping for the first time, start with an overnight campout and keep it simple. Sticking to just the basics will set you up for success. Here are the things you'll need to get started with camping for the first time:
A tent
Choose the tent that's the right size and fit for your budget. If it's just you, still consider getting a two person tent to allow for some extra room. Make sure it has a rain fly and even a vest waterproofibule outside the door for muddy shoes .

A sleeping bag
If you're planning on only camping in pleasant weather, a summer sleeping bag is all you need, but consider a 3-season bag to get more bang for your buck.

A sleeping pad
Since you'll be sleeping on this pad, make sure it's both comfortable and well-insulated to prevent the loss of body heat.

Spend some time sleeping on your pad at home, before you test it in the wilderness.
A light
It gets dark in the great outdoors, so make sure to bring some lighting. You can get by with just a flashlight, but headlamps keep your hands free. Pro tip: Consider also investing in a lantern for extra hands-free lighting.
A stove
For car camping, nothing really beats the classic two-burner propane camp stove. They are reasonably priced and two burners give you a lot of flexibility. Pro tip: Make sure to pack fuel canisters and a lighter.
A Camp Chair
Not really optional. Sure, you can sit on a picnic table, but relaxation your time will be better with a comfy chair. Pro tip: Consider a mesh camp chair for easy drying.
